A Little History
 

I remember my mother designing floor plans and homes as a hobby.  For her it was simply the logical extension of her work as a Home Economics teacher.  I suspect my tinkering and handyman efforts were simply a reflection of her DIY attitude. When I was in college my folks remodeled the kitchen and I moved most of the old kitchen to the basement so I can honestly state that I tackled my first kitchen remodel over 30 years ago!  In 1986 my wife and I bought our first home and within three years we had remodeled the dining room and kitchen, finished the first floor, built a large deck, remodeled two bedrooms and landscaped the back yard.  Later, when we wanted to sell the house I added a bedroom and full bath on the first floor, doing the work myself.  In 1998 we were ready to remodel and build a major addition onto our "new" house in Falls Church and I engaged the services of a small company called Home Improvements By Owner.  The owner, Terry Hamm, offered professional assistance to home owners who wanted to hire subcontractors and perform some of the work themselves.  I was happy with the results and ended up working for HIBO as a project manager. By 2005 the company was in a new office, we had several employees and were building major additions as well as custom homes. In 2006  Terry decided to "retire" to his cabin on the Chesapeake and closed HIBO so I opened Square One Remodeling.

Today Square One Remodeling offers complete design and planning services to both homeowners and general contractors. We also offer consulting and management services for our DIY clients who choose to contract direct with their selected tradesmen.

So What's New at Square One Today?
We have recently entered into a relationship with J.D. Framing Construction in which SQ1 is responsible for designing and planning their clients projects and J.D.  handles all the construction. Working together we can offer J&D's clients a seamless remodeling and building experience with significant project cost savings.

Square One has recently engaged the services of Remodeling and Residential Design Services to provide complete plans including structural drawings. Mr Ralph Crafts, owner, is an experienced designer and brings the efficiencies and convenience of his state of the art computer modeling to our clients. This technology has made the it easier for our clients to make important design selections and save many hours of time, not to mention gas, for all concerned.

In 2007 we made a concerted effort to develop closer working relationships with selected vendors and suppliers. Our clients can now take advantage of the personal service and expertise of vendors such as Nationwide Flooring and Windows, Window Smith, Marvin Showcase, Pro Source Floors, Let Me Shop and others.
